The Chapter organized a Holiday Adoption program for 55 local Military Families in need of some Christmas Cheer. With the generous help of many businesses and citizens who donated gifts and money, we coordinated with the Veterans Outreach Center and delivered the gifts to a central location where the families picked them up.
The Town of Farmington held a Celebration for local Vietnam Veterans to partially atone for the poor reception many of these people received when they returned from the war. Blue Star Mothers as well as many other organizations also attended the event to express their support and appreciation
As our forces are being reduced in Afghanistan, some of the remote outposts have minimized stocks of personal items and also reduced the frequency of cooked meals, so the troops are partially subsisting on MREs. We were asked to send some "Goodies" such as snacks and personal items to tie them over
We send live Christmas Trees and a "Party in a Box" to deployed troop units to give them a sense of home.
After almost 5 years of exciting service to our country's veterans, active duty personnel, and families, we celebrated the Canteen refurbishment with a Grand Re-Opening. Many organizations and people attended, and we look forward to many more years of service.
A major rehab of the canteen was donated by the Home Depot Corporation and their employees. The Corporation donated over $23,000 in materials and appliances, and hundreds of employees donated their expertise and time to construct and install the new materials. This included a new kitchen floor, appliances, painting and cabinets; the porch was painted, with new carpeting and new windows; most of the interior was repainted; they donated a new John Deere riding lawn mower; they redid much of the landscaping; and much more. Thank you so much for your extremely generous gift!
